PAT TESTING
ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT INSPECTION TESTING OR PAT TESTING?
PAT Testing (Portable Appliance Testing) is a crucial process for inspecting and testing your electrical equipment to ensure it is properly maintained, functional, and safe to use. However, PAT Testing is no longer the correct term for this process. In September 2020, with the introduction of the 5th edition of the IET regulations, the term was replaced by Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (ITEE). This change was made to clarify that the inspection and testing cover all electrical equipment, not just portable appliances. The new definition encompasses all types of electrical equipment under the umbrella of ITEE

WHO MUST DO PAT TESTING?
Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment should be conducted by a competent individual or a qualified, experienced PAT tester. The inspection and testing must be performed using a calibrated PAT testing machine. Records of these inspections and tests must be maintained as evidence of compliance by the duty holder, manager, or owner with regulations concerning electrical equipment. A routine inspection and testing program, or PAT testing, is a vital component of any Health & Safety Policy.

PAT TESTING
WHY DO I NEED TESTING?
Consider This Scenario: What if you lost your business or home due to an electrical fire? What if your insurance was deemed invalid because you couldn't provide proof of efforts to minimize the risk of faulty electrical equipment? Given these potential risks, maintaining a regular schedule of inspection and testing for your electrical equipment is widely recognized as the best way to meet your obligations under Health & Safety Regulations. Without it, you could find yourself in a difficult situation if an accident involving electrical equipment were to occur. .
